Underground Car Cave

This 'Underground Car Cave' is formed beneath the driveway of a detached house. It can equally apply to a house in an urban environment as well as one in the suburbs or in the countryside.

The concept is very simple - a car drives onto a platform set into the drive which then descends down to a new basement level. The car is then driven (or pushed) along a 'vehicle catwalk’ display that becomes the main focal point of the whole space behind the bar. In order to avoid exhaust fumes and a negative temperature gradient, the ‘catwalk’ is separated from the entertaining area by a full length glass screen.

A sculptural spiral staircase descends into the space from the house above to provide some visual drama. Opposite the bar is a large sunken seating area with a TV screen and a fireplace and to one side is a temperature and humidity controlled wine cellar and humidor.

“The secret to success is to do the common things uncommonly well.“

John D Rockefellar - American Oil Tycoon
